Spring into Potty Training – Prepare to begin!

Brrrr! Is it cold where you are right now? We’re at 25 degrees here at the PottyTrainingStore.Com headquarters! Wherever you are, if you’re thinking about beginning to potty train your child, you may be wondering how or when to start. We offer you this advice; let your child determine when to start.

The thinking here is to avoid putting pressure on your child before they’re physically and mentally ready. Every child is different and there is no “right” age to begin. Having said this, we aren’t recommending a “wait and see” approach. If wait around to see your child show a sudden interest in potty training, you might be waiting for quite a while.

Children are natural imitators. They love to be a emulate their parents’ behaviors. They also love to learn while playing. By making potty training preparation fun, you just might speed up the process and get your little one on the potty chair in no time.

We recommend letting your child observe mom and dad’s bathroom routine. Let them know what you’re doing throughout, from having the “I need to go” feeling to flushing, washing hands, etc. Explain what you’re doing and let your child participate. For example, tell them what happens when we flush the toilet, if your child shows interest, let them pull the lever. Take advantage of everyday opportunities to make potty training easier.

Before you actually start potty training, give your toddler a potty chair and explain how it’s used. Let them sit on it and get a feel for how it works with all their clothes still on. You can use dolls or toys to demonstrate how it works. Once they start understanding and showing interest, well that’s when the real fun begins.
